Vaddakkachchi

Vaddakkachchi is a 2023 documentary by WhiteFox Studios, told in a narrative style. It travels through the village and its surroundings: irrigation canals cutting through paddy fields, the still water of the tank, lotus ponds, cattle wading at the water’s edge and the places where the community gathers — its schools, temples and churches.

Much of the film is shot from above. Drone footage shows how the land, water and settlements fit together, while ground-level scenes — like a traditional wooden oil press still at work — bring the everyday life of the place close.
